Having Our Say, The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years

Emily Mann, adapted from the book Having Our Say by Sarah L. and A. Elizabeth Delany with Amy Hill Hearth, based on the lives of Sadie and Bessie Delany. HAVING OUR SAY opens as 103-year-old Sadie Delany and 101-year-old Bessie Delany welcome us into their Mount Vernon, New York, home. As they prepare a celebratory dinner in remembrance of their father's birthday, they take us on a remarkable journey through the last hundred years of our nation's history, recounting a fascinating series of events and anecdotes drawn from their rich family history and careers as pioneering African-American professionals. Their story is not simply African-American history or women's history. It is our history, told through the eyes of two unforgettable women as they look not only into the past, but also ahead into the twenty-first century. Needed are 2 African American actresses.

The Sugar Bean Sisters - Written by Nathan Sanders. In this Southern Gothic comedy of romance, murder and alien abduction, the Nettle sisters are determined to escape spinsterhood—Willie Mae by going to Salt Lake and finding a good Mormon husband and Faye by hopping on the spaceship when the "space people" return for another visit. We meet Faye and Willie Mae as they return home to their ramshackle swamp dwelling in Sugar Bean, Florida, after a disastrous daytrip to Disney World, where Willie lost her prized Eva Gabor wig on Space Mountain. Having witnessed the landing of an alien space craft some 25 years ago in her daddy's sugarcane field, Faye prepares for the return of her celestial visitors on this night, the very anniversary of that fateful day. A disturbance in the sugarcane field lures the sisters outside to investigate, and Faye recalls how their infamous daddy claimed to have witnessed dead folk walking through Sugar Bean on a similar night many years before. A strange bird-like woman suddenly appears out of the darkness of Buster Swamp, setting in motion a chain of extraordinary events. Lies begin to unravel and the truth is revealed as the Sugar Bean Sisters hatch a diabolical plot to ensure the space people's return. Needed are 1 male age 20-40 and 4 females ages 20 and up.

The Wizard of Oz- The Royal Shakespeare Company version. Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy's imagination.
Songs include: Over The Rainbow, Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead), If I Only Had A Brain, If I Only Had A Heart, If I Only Had The Nerve , We're Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road), The Jitterbug, and The Merry Old Land of Oz, Poppies (Optimistic Voices) and If I Were King Of The Forest. A large cast of men, women and children of all ages are needed for the production.

Michael Cochran will direct the production and Douglas Arnold will be the Musical Director. Auditionees are asked to prepare to sing a song from the play at auditions.

General Audition Notes Auditions are usually held on a Monday and Tuesday evening. Adult shows audition at 7 PM. Youth shows audition at 5:00 PM. Auditionees may check out a perusal script 1-2 weeks ahead of time to become familiar with the play. At the auditions the director will assign parts at random and have auditionees stand onstage and read these scenes looking for a sense of character, expression, diction, vocal projection and general acting ability. They might also be asked to participate in some simple theatre games or improvisations. Some auditionees from Monday and Tuesday might be called back for an additional audition. If you are auditioning for a musical you should sing one of the songs from the show. If you are unable to attend the scheduled audition date please contact the theatre for an alternate audition time. Perusal scripts for all shows may be checked out for three days with a $10 Youth script refundable deposit and a $10 -$25 Adult script refundable deposit.
