Cast List – Disney’s HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
This was the hardest casting decision I have ever had to make, and I am truly sorry we cannot use more of you! Please audition for future shows, including our upcoming production of the classic musical THE WIZARD OF OZ, which has auditions in January. FOOTLIGHTS, our youth acting troupes, start meeting this Saturday and we hope to see many of you there as well. You don’t have to preregister to join – just show up! Click on “Education” then “Classes” on our website for more info.
Regarding casting – we factored in lots of things that you have no control over, including age (we tended to go with older students), height, creativity, sparkle, how you appeared to mix with others as well as acting, singing and dancing. Competition was fierce – we ended up with about 130 auditionees.
If you are on the cast list – your first rehearsal will be Monday, August 25 at 5:00. You will get your scripts/scores then. (If you had put down that you have a conflict for Monday August 25 then your first rehearsal will be Tuesday August 26 at 5:00.) Please email April at acochran@mhtplay.com to indicate that you have seen this list. If you are not cast – please accept my thanks for your interest, and I hope we will see you again at future auditions! If you indicated that you were interested in tech, usher or crew, MHT’s staff should be in touch.

| Ramona Quimby |
Performance Dates March 5-8, 2009 |
January 12 & 13, 2009 Auditions |
| Unpredictable. Exasperating. Boisterous and independent. That's Ramona Quimby for you. Always aggravating her older sister, Beezus, constantly getting into trouble and sometimes "making a big, noisy fuss" when things don't go her way. As narrator, Beezus (Beatrice Quimby) introduces the Quimby family and friends and thereby sets the scene for the collection of vignettes that trace Ramona's tumultuous passage through third grade and through her family relationships. At school, she throws a tantrum when provoked by a classmate and is sent home in disgrace. The teacher's wrath, an important family wedding, persistent sibling bickering and Mr. Quimby's attempts to give up smoking are part of the fabric that shape a humorous, loving family portrait. The characters and the material, adapted by Obie Award-winning playwright Len Jenkin, are as "today" as the morning newspaper. The problems facing the Quimbys, a middle-class Oregon family, are problems common to most families, and the family's togetherness in tackling the sacrifices and adjustments required when the father is unexpectedly fired from his job is a clear statement of traditional family values. Along with the discovery that life is not always fair, eventually Ramona and Beezus come to realize that sisters may not always agree, but they can be good to have around. Needed are 5 adult males or teen males who play adult roles, 7 adult females or teen females who play adults and 5 boys and 9 girls. |

General Audition Notes
Auditions are usually held on a Monday and Tuesday evening. Adult shows audition at 7 PM. Youth shows audition at 5:00 PM. Auditionees may check out a perusal script 1-2 weeks ahead of time to become familiar with the play. At the auditions the director will assign parts at random and have auditionees stand onstage and read these scenes looking for a sense of character, expression, diction, vocal projection and general acting ability. They might also be asked to participate in some simple theatre games or improvisations. Some auditionees from Monday and Tuesday might be called back for an additional audition. If you are auditioning for a musical you should sing one of the songs from the show. If you are unable to attend the scheduled audition date please contact the theatre for an alternate audition time. Perusal scripts for all shows may be checked out for three days with a $10 Youth script refundable deposit and a $10 -$25 Adult script refundable deposit. |
